Terms of Service

1. The Service

WordBattle is a daily word puzzle game for human players. A new six-letter word is selected each day and players have a limited number of attempts to guess it. Players can compete within teams on leaderboards. The Service is provided free of charge.

2. Eligibility

WordBattle is not intended for users under the age of 16. By using the Service, you represent that you are at least 16 years of age. By creating an account, you additionally confirm this representation. If we become aware that a user is under 16, we will delete their account and associated data.

3. Your account

3.1 Anonymous play

You may play the daily word puzzle without creating an account. Your game history is stored in your browser's local storage and is not backed up by us. If you clear your browser data, your history is permanently lost.

3.2 Registration

To access additional features, including teams, leaderboards, profiles, and statistics, you must create an account with a valid email address, a display name, and a password. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.

When you create an account, your game history stored in your browser may be linked to your new account. Once linked, this data is subject to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

3.3 Account security

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. If you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account, contact us immediately at [email protected].

3.4 Account deletion

You may delete your account at any time from your profile settings. Upon deletion, your personal information (email, display name, profile image) is permanently erased. Your gameplay history is retained in anonymised form to preserve team statistics and leaderboard integrity - see our Privacy Policy for details.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Cheat - use any automated tool, script, or method to determine the daily word other than through the Service's intended gameplay (submitting guesses and receiving evaluations)
• Abuse the Service - disrupt, overload, or interfere with the Service or its infrastructure
• Circumvent security - attempt to bypass authentication, access other users' accounts, or exploit vulnerabilities
• Impersonate - misrepresent your identity or affiliation with any person or organisation
• No automated access - access the Service through any automated means (including bots, scripts, scrapers, or headless browsers). WordBattle is for human players only.
• Scrape or harvest - collect data from the Service for purposes other than your personal use
• Post prohibited content - submit or display illegal, defamatory, discriminatory, sexually explicit, or offensive content anywhere within the Service
• Violate laws - use the Service in a manner that violates any applicable law or regulation

We are not obligated to pre-screen or monitor user-generated content, but we reserve the right to review and act on any content that violates these Terms. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account, without notice, for any violation of these Terms. We also reserve the right to rename, modify, or remove any user-generated content that we consider, in our sole discretion, to be offensive, misleading, or otherwise in breach of these Terms, without suspending or deleting the associated account.

5. Communications

5.1 Email categories

By using the Service, you may receive the following types of email:

• Transactional emails - account verification, password reset, security alerts, and account deletion confirmation. These are necessary for the operation of your account and cannot be opted out of while your account is active.
• Service notifications - achievement unlocks, milestone celebrations, and team membership changes. These are enabled by default and can be disabled in your profile settings.
• Marketing notifications - daily play reminders, weekly team digests, and re-engagement emails. These are only sent with your express opt-in consent, which you may provide during registration or in your profile settings.

5.2 Managing preferences

You can manage your notification preferences at any time from your profile settings. You can also unsubscribe from all non-transactional emails using the unsubscribe link included in every notification email.

5.3 Consent withdrawal

Withdrawing consent for marketing notifications takes effect immediately. We retain a record of your consent and withdrawal for compliance purposes (see our Privacy Policy for details).

6. Intellectual property

6.1 Our property

All content, code, design, graphics, logos, and trade marks associated with the Service are the property of ONE ONE FOUR PTY LTD or its licensors. This includes the specific expression of the Service - its source code, user interface, visual design, and unique game mechanics - but does not extend to the general concept of word guessing games. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without our prior written consent.

6.2 Your content

You retain ownership of any content you submit to the Service (such as your display name and profile image). By submitting content, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, display, and store that content for the purpose of operating the Service.

6.3 Game data

Your guesses, results, and statistics are stored by the Service. You may export this data at any time (see our Privacy Policy). Aggregated, anonymised game statistics may be used by us for analytics and to improve the Service.

7. Teams

7.1 Creating and joining teams

You may create or join teams within the Service. Team creators may manage team membership and settings.

7.2 Team conduct

You are responsible for your conduct within teams. Team owners must manage their teams fairly and must not use team management features (such as removing members or changing settings) to harass, discriminate against, or otherwise mistreat team members. We may remove you from a team, revoke your team ownership, or suspend your account if your conduct is disruptive or violates these Terms.

7.3 Team data

If you leave a team or delete your account, your historical gameplay contributions to that team's statistics are retained in anonymised form.

7.4 Team messaging integrations

Team owners may configure integrations that send team notifications to external messaging platforms (such as Slack, Discord, Telegram, or Microsoft Teams). Notifications include game completions, daily and weekly summaries, and membership events. By participating in a team with an active messaging integration, you acknowledge that your display name, game results, streak data, and other gameplay information may be shared with the configured messaging platform. Active integrations are visible to all team members on the team page. If you do not wish your gameplay data to be shared in this way, you may leave the team. Team owners are responsible for ensuring they have appropriate authority to configure integrations within their messaging workspace.

8. Limitation of liability

8.1 Service provided "as is"

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or available at any particular time.

8.2 Limitation

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ONE ONE FOUR PTY LTD's total liability to you for any claims arising from or related to the Service is limited to the amount you have paid to use the Service (which is zero for a free service).

In no event shall ONE ONE FOUR PTY LTD be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or loss of goodwill.

8.3 Australian Consumer Law

Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, right, or remedy conferred by the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)) or any other applicable law that cannot be excluded, restricted, or modified by agreement.

9. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ONE ONE FOUR PTY LTD, its director, and its agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in connection with:

• Your use of the Service in breach of these Terms
• Your violation of any applicable law or regulation
• Any content you submit to the Service

10. Termination

10.1 By you

You may stop using the Service at any time. You may delete your account from your profile settings.

10.2 By us

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if:

• You breach these Terms
• We are required to do so by law
• We discontinue the Service

If we terminate your account, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you by email (to the address on your account) unless we are prohibited from doing so by law or doing so would compromise the security of the Service.

10.3 Effect of termination

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Sections 6, 7.3, 7.4, 8, 9, 12, and 13 survive termination.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by:

• Posting the updated Terms on this page with a new effective date
• Displaying a notice within the Service

Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you should stop using the Service and delete your account.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia.

If a dispute arises, we encourage you to contact us first at [email protected] so we can attempt to resolve it informally. If we cannot resolve the dispute informally within 30 days, either party may pursue the matter in the courts of Queensland, Australia, which shall have exclusive jurisdiction.

13. General

13.1 Entire agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and ONE ONE FOUR PTY LTD regarding your use of the Service.

13.2 Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force and effect.

13.3 Waiver

Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that provision or any other provision.

13.4 Assignment

You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms. We may assign our rights and obligations under these Terms to any successor entity.
